The
West Side Lumber Co. sampler route contains about 13 miles of WSLC mainline
from just beyond MP 10 Straight Siding up past Deadwood wye and siding
to MP 23 or so. Camp 8 is included along with some custom built WSLC scenery
items. Portals are installed at each end of route to allow for continuous
operations. A few abandoned spurs are also included for further imaginative
operational opportunities if desired. All trees and ground cover were
created by David Drake "dmdrake" specifically for the WSLC project.
This
is part of a massive project that intends to re-create the entire WSLC
as it was in the 1950's for Trainz Railroad Simulator. It has been in
work for several years and has many custom items built or planned to make
this the most realistic narrow gauge logging prototype route ever offered
for computer simulators. The West Side’s mainline stretched about
70 miles eastward from Tuolumne into the heart of the rugged Sierras.
The line twisted and turned about the many canyons and gorges on nearly
5% grades and made for a spectacular setting for the numerous side winding
shays that the company acquired over the years – most of which still
exist today on excursion lines and museum displays.
Operations:
With
the WSLC Sampler route you can simulate operations at the Deadwood Wye
area. This was a busy spot where the "woods" train and the "town"
train would swap loads and empties. The TRS2010 and TRS2012 versions include
a session with an empty train ready to head up to Deadwood to pick up
loads already positioned on the siding. It is quite fun.

This
route is compatable and has been tested in TRS 2004, 2010 and 2012. Installation
