The Switchmans Nightmare is based on the original switching layout found in "101 Trackplans for Model Railroaders" by Linn Westcott. It has been modified slightly and looks very much like the newer version by Scot Osterweil called "Highland Terminal". The puzzle is simple in that the 10 cars sitting in yard tracks C and D (lower left next to the road beyond the T1 and T2 switches) need to be swapped out with the cars of the same type on the industry sidings. Sounds simple until you start doing it and constantly get in your own way. It took me well over two hours to complete the first time I tried it. 1 hour is probably average for an efficient engineer.

My version is not exactly spaced as the original due to the Trainz switch control spacing requirement. You need at least 2/3rds length of the loco clearance from the switch to move it. Consequently this version is a bit more forgiving and you may be able to squeeze an extra car in certain spots that you could not do in the original. It is still difficult so don't get over confident.

This layout was made in TRS2010 and has a version 3.2 number tagged on it so it will not work with earlier versions of Trainz. I can make older versions if enough people request it however I may have to remove some of the scenery items. I used all built in content from TRS2010 so there is no download station or any other 3rd party goobledeegook to worry about. Intstall the CDP using CMP and run instantly.

The only rule is that you do not use the off limits switch. It is aptly named "no cheating" and should not be used under any circumstances.

There is also an AI train running on a separate track that serves no purpose other than to distract the user. Stay focused you can get through it.
