Virginia and Truckee

This is a small short line located in the high country east of Reno Nevada. It was primarily made to haul silver and gold ore out of the mountains during the historic "Comstock Lode" rush during the late 1800s. It has been called the "Crookedest Line in the World" due to it's winding nature and incredible grades. The V&T operates now as a tourist line with 2 steam locomotives and a small 44 tonner diesel. I visited in late 2003 during the "off" season, consequently the steam locos not operating but were in the shops for rebuilding where we inspected them.
