The CLEAR LAKE FAQ
This route has proven to be one of the most difficult routes to get running properly within the entire Trainz route arsenal. I have received countless emails and have provided much support over the last year for this small yet huge contribution to the Trainz community. I don’t mind helping out others but time is precious and I need it to make other stuff. I am providing this FAQ in the hopes that it will help to answer all the questions and guide you in the right direction to get this fun little route and scenarios operating. Thanks for all the support. |

Q: Where do I download Clear Lake? A: Clear Lake is available on the Download Station. LINK |
Q: Ok, I downloaded it but I am missing a lot of assets according to Trainz Objectz and the Trainz Download Helper is not finding everything. What do I do now? A: Clear Lake has many assets that are not on the Download Station. The TDH will actually make it more difficult to locate everything. All non DLS asset links are provided HERE. Simply click on the KUIDs you are looking for and your browser will be directed to it for download. |
Q: I downloaded all the items I could find in the dependency file but I am still missing some textures. Where are these at? A: These are the textures from Prowler901’s San Juan Western route. They are not available as separate items but are part of that route’s cdp package. You must download the route from HERE and install it. The missing textures will then magically appear. Alternatively, I have packaged a zip file with the required textures that can be extracted into your trainz\world\dispatcher\downloads folder. That file is available HERE |
Q: While testing the route my train is “floating” above the ground with no track. This is happening after the “Camp 2” area where there are some switchbacks or something. A: You are missing the Prowler901 TrestlePak or did not install it properly. This package is not available as a .cdp file but as a .zip file you must install into your trainz\world\custom\track directory. You can find this .zip file HERE. |
Q: Not only is my train is floating above the ground, there is no track at all. How do I fix this? A: You are missing the Prowler901 track pack or installed it twice via zipfile and cdp file. If you downloaded the zip file and installed it into the custom folder, it needs to be removed. Look for these folders in your Trainz\world\custom\track directory and remove them: \narrowgauge \ng_clear Then download and install the cdp pack from HERE. You can tell easily if you have duplicated KUIDS by running the Trainz Error Log from trainz\cache\logs\log or you can use TrainzObjectz to identify duplicated KUIDs |
Q: I have downloaded everything but am still missing some items with a 33404 KUID when viewing with TrainzObjectz. A: These are trees made by “dmdrake” under the UTC version of Trainz. He has recently upgraded the tree sets to TRS standards and the KUID2 format. The old trees where made obsolete by the new TRS trees. The old trees must be downloaded as individual files from the download station using the KUID numbers from the dependency list LINK Alternatively, you can perform a direct download of the required tree sets from HERE. |
Q: Are there any scenarios for this route? A: Yes there are, all on the download station: |
Q: I have downloaded the Clear Lake 2004 scenario, the download page said something about a “TRK” file, what is this? A: This is a .trk file for the Clear Lake Lumber Co logging layout Kuid 86661:100058. It fixes an extreme grade on the last trestle before Camp 3 that prevented some locos operating with prototypical enginespecs to make it up the grade with loads. This file will make the grade easier to negotiate and help the loco maintain constant power. This file does nothing apparent to the casual viewer but it is necessary in order to run the updated scenarios for the route. Go to the Clear Lake mainpage to download and install this file. |
Q: I have the TRK file, now what do I do with it? A: The TRK file is part of the Clear Lake Logging 1 map files. You must extract it into the trainz\world\dispatcher\downloads\kuid 86661 100058 folder. It replaces the existing TRK file and will not effect anything else. There is a ‘readme’ file within the downloaded TRK file that also explains installation. |
Q: While running the Clear Lake 2004 scenario I keep getting “Stack Dumps” and can’t finish the scenario. Why is this happening? A: You are missing required rollingstock assets for the scenario. The Clear Lake Assets page contains all the rolling stock and links required for the scenario HERE You must have the required assets installed before running the scenario. |
Q: I upgraded from UTC and have the Uintah Shay made by Prowler901. When I downloaded and installed the Clear Lake Shay from Prowler’s webpage, neither of the locos work now. What happened? A: There are duplicated files between these two locos. When the Uintah Shay is installed the files go into the “custom” directory. The Clear Lake Shay installs some of the same files into the “dispatcher\downloads” folder. This causes KUID duplication errors in Trainz. You must remove the files in the “custom” directory. The easiest way to do this is to first run Trainz then exit out. Then run Trainz Objectz. Trainz Objectz will display the duplicated KUIDs after initialization. Simply select and delete the OLDER KUIDs from the list. Hit “refresh list” from the menu button and you should be ok. |
Q: I have done everything listed here and I still can’t get the route or scenarios to run. How do I find more assistance? A: First you should perform a search on “Clear Lake” on the Auran Forums This route has been downloaded thousands of times and there is a wealth of information on the forums. Try posting a new message with specific questions, there are plenty of narrow gauge fans out there that are willing to help. Second, use Trainz Objectz and the lists I have provided on this page to verify line by line each item. If your list does not match mine then the route will always have errors. Use the built in Trainz Log (trainz\cache\logs...) to locate possible errors, omitted content or duplicated assets. Lastly you can email me with specific questions and I will try to help. |
Q: What does the future of Clear Lake have in store for us? A; The original Clear Lake will remain unchanged and on the download station for users of previous Trainz versions. The UTC scenarios will also remain on the download station. New scenarios are currently in development using the new TrainzProRoutes Scenario Creation System. These will be released on the download station. Clear Lake II is also in development. The route will be updated to run only under TRS. New scenarios and sessions will be available. Many new custom assets and rollingstock will also be made for the route to make it fully functional and interactive. |
