Mt Blanchard 31MAY2003

Mt. Blanchard is located about 7 miles south of Bellingham in Washington State.  It was home to many logging enterprises, notably the Blanchard Logging Company and the Bloedel-Donovan Lumber Co.  There are some great mountain biking trails on the old logging mountain grades that reach Lilly Lake and Lizard Lake.  From the lakes an old incline grade dives down mountain to some logging roads.  Much fun on a mountain bike.

Oyster Bay and site of the old wharf.

Oyster Bay and the Blanchard townsite.  This slough was used to transport logs to sea.  The Great Northern RR ran through here at one time it is now BNSF.

View of Mt. Blanchard from Chuckanut Drive south.  The Blanchard millsite was on the lower left of the picture.

Oyster Bay wharf remnants.

This photo was taken from where the sawmill was located.  The pilings are the old log dump.

This stuff was found at the top of the incline area near Oyster Dome.

Cable remnants on a large stump more than likely used as a guye line for a spar tree.

Spectacular view over Padilla Bay towards Anacortes from the summit of Oyster Dome on Mt. Blanchard.
